DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-3 satellite sensor acquired data in eight-band short-wave infrared (SWIR) and 12 CAVIS imagery spectral bands, in addition to the standard Panchromatic and Multispectral bands. The WorldView-3 satellite was successfully launched on August 13, 2014.
WorldView-3 is the first multi-payload, super-spectral, high-resolution commercial satellite sensor operating at an altitude of 617 km. WorldView-3 satellite provides 31 cm panchromatic resolution, 1.24 m multispectral resolution, 3.7 m short wave infrared resolution (SWIR) and 30 m CAVIS resolution. The satellite has an average revisit time of <1 day and is capable of collecting up to 680,000 kilometre squared per day.
WorldView-3 satellite bears a strong resemblance to WorldView-2 launched on October 8, 2009 in terms of its performance characteristics. The WorldView-3 satellite sensor benefits from significant improvements including cost savings, risk reduction, and faster delivery for its customers.
The CAVIS spectral bands allow for atmospheric monitoring and provide correction data to improve WorldView-3’s imagery when it images earth objects through haze, soot, dust or other obscurants. WorldView-3 has an average revisit time of < 1 day and is capable of collecting up to 680,000 km2 per day, further enhancing the DigitalGlobe collection capacity for more rapid and reliable collection.
